Thought For Today - ‘I can do all this through him who gives me strength’

‘I can do all this through him who gives me strength’

It’s great to hear some good news and I’m sure we’ve all been touched by the endeavours of Captain Tom Moore, the 99 year old war veteran, who set out to raise £1,000 for the NHS by walking 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday. He’s captured the nation’s imagination and his current total stands at £18million and there are calls for him to be knighted for his birthday. Captain Tom’s initial target of £1,000 seems paltry in the face of what he has achieved and he has described the money raised as ‘absolutely enormous’ and ‘diffficult to imagine’.

Paul’s letter to the Philippians tells us ‘I can do all this through him who gives me strength’. When we put our trust and hope in the Lord he will truly give us the strength to do all things. We all have our mountains to climb and there will be days that taking a single step will feel beyond our capabilities, but if we put our trust in the Lord he will give us the strength to carry on. We set ourselves earthly targets but when God is our strength there is no end to his power and we can do things that we never believed possible. We can only imagine things that are within our human experience but God has so much more planned for us than we can ever think or dream of.
