School Chaplaincy

Revd Jenny Jeffery who used to be the Associate Vicar at St George's is now the chaplain at Bishop Henderson School.

The post was created in response to The Diocesan initiative “Changing Lives, Changing Churches, Changing Communities”, and works to deepen and extend links into the community.

It is currently funded by The Diocesan fund for Church growth, St George’s and St Michael’s churches, the school and a trust fund.

It is a “fresh expression” of church and enables the church to be in the community. At the school, supporting staff, governors, pupils and their families, and with the Family Support Worker and the Children’s Centre. The chaplain also supports the religious education curriculum and the development of spirituality within the school.

Street and School Pastors

At St George's we have 4 of our Church Members who are Street Pastors who go on patrol from 10pm until 4am every Saturday night, walking around the town centre and staffing ‘Safe Space, a free street cafe offering hot drinks, biscuits and a listening ear. If you would like to find out more about Street Pastors, please click here

We also have a couple of our Church Members who are School Pastors. They have been trained in areas including mental health, youth culture, listening skills, conflict resolution and first aid, and help at local schools in the community.
